Vitamin D a fat soluble vitamin, is a very difficult vitamin for humans to get as it is not present naturally in many foods. Your body can synthesis vitamin D through sunlight, but that comes at risks from over exposure to the sun. Vitamin D is needed in the process for your body to absorb calcium, which is why you see many foods that are high in calcium are also fortified with Vitamin D, for example milk.
